Technically, any liquid intended for drinking is a beverage so named by a word derived from French and Latin verbs meaning ‘to drink.’ Healthy beverages are beverages with health benefits that attribute by its nutritional value. The use of healthy beverage for promoting health and relieving symptom is as old as the practice of medicine.

Dark lager

The two basic types of beers are ales and lagers. Ales are fermented at warmer temperatures with yeast that thrives at those temperatures and that do most of their work at the top of the fermentation tank, hence the term "top fermenting" is used when discussing ales. Lagers, on the other hand, utilize yeast that work at cooler temperatures. Lager is a bottom fermented beer, originally stored for long periods in the cold. It is pale in color and moderately hopped, with a flavor not usually characterized by any aroma in particular.

In the late nineteenth century, German brewers started brewing the Marzen, or Oktoberfest style of beer which quickly became more popular than the Vienna Lager.

Before pale bottom fermented beers became popular, almost all beers were dark in color. Dark lagers were strongly related to the different areas of central Europe, being brewed, for example, in the Bayer and Bohemia regions. German brewers also created a dark, rich lager known as the Munich Dunkel which is still popular in Bavaria and through many parts of the world today.

Dark Lagers are wonderful beers to drink on cool, Fall days. Their malty richness and pleasant, sweet flavors also tend to pair well with a variety of foods. Most of them are also strong enough in flavor to stand up to spicy dishes, barbecue and other  flavorful foods.

American dark lager beer's malt aroma and flavor are low but notable. Its color ranges from a very deep copper to a deep, dark brown. It has a clean, light body with discreet contributions from caramel and roasted malts. Non-malt adjuncts are often used, and hop rates are low. Hop bitterness is clean and has a short duration of impact. Hop flavor, and aroma are low.

Hop, which is added during the boil, is the source of bitter compounds and responsible for the bitter taste in beer. The hop's antioxidant activity depends on the hop variety, quality and method of processing.
