Papaya juice as laxative

Papayas, when soft, sweet and ripe are a delicacy. The outer skin of a papaya turns yellow or orange when it is ripe, and the fresh becomes sweet and soft.

To prepare them for juicing, cut in half, scoop out the seeds and discard, and then scoop out the flesh, throwing the skins away. Then run the flesh through the juicer.

Papaya juiced contains fibrin, which is very rare for a plant product. The juice strengthens the body’s blood coagulating ability.

The papaya is a treasure house of proteolytic enzymes, the chemicals that make digestion easy. It is a fine laxative, appetite stimulant and cleanser of the kidneys, liver and intestines.

Papaya encourages the appetite and helps digestion, it is a diuretic and prevents flatulence. Papaya has a soothing effect on the stomach and pancreas. It is used with meat and fish as a ‘softtener’ because it helps the digestion of these foods.

Laxative is an agents that promote bowel movements.  The term ‘laxative’ comes from the Latin laxus, meaning ‘loose’ or ‘lax’, and has been used in the context of medicine since the late 14th century.
