Anise tea drinks

Anise (Pimpinella anisum) is one of the most ancient spices know to man. Originally it was cultivated by the Egyptians.

Anise produces seeds that contain a special oil, anethole. It is this that provides the main benefits, either as a tea infusion or as oil.

Traditionally anise has been used to treat digestive problems, coughs, bronchitis and asthma. To make anise tea, use 1 teaspoon of gently crushed anise seeds per cup of boiling water; steep for ten t twenty minutes, then strain and drink.

For babies with colic, regular use of anise tea by the mother may relive the condition. Analysis shows that anise contains several B vitamins, choline, calcium, iron, potassium and magnesium.

Anise also contains plant hormones that are similar to estrogen; this may explain have the seeds are recommended for nursing mothers.

In ancient Rome, brides and grooms bathed in anise tea to ensure a loving and long lasting relationship.
