Nutrients in watermelon

Watermelon (Citrullus lanatus) botanically considered as the fruit is belonging to the family Cucurbitaceae. Watermelon juice, as a beverage, is found almost exclusively as an over-the-counter drink made by hand from the pink flesh of the watermelon fruit.

Watermelon juice is full of good electrolytes, which may help prevent heat stroke.

Watermelon is rich in vitamin C, vitamin A, vitamin B, amino acid and also carotenoid lycopene. The red flesh of watermelon contains some vitamin A. Citrulline and arginine are amino acids found in watermelon and are major components of the human nitrous oxide system and help regulate many biochemical processes. Citrulline lacks biological importance on its own but is transformed by the human body into arginine. Arginine is used in the nitric oxide pathway to help in vasodilatation and overall cardiovascular health. The amino acids citrulline and arginine help improve circulation which can reduce muscle soreness after an intense workout.

Watermelon contains high levels of lycopene that is very effective in protect cells from damage and lower the risk of heart disease. Lycopene, is a powerful oxygen radical scavenger and highly effective antioxidant. Watermelon extracts help to reduce hypertension and lower blood pressure in obese adults.
