A binge is a spree, or doing a lot of something at once. In 1994,
Harvard University social psychologist Henry Wechsler defined binge
drinking as the act of consuming large enough amounts of alcohol in a
short enough period of time to put the drinker, as well as other people,
at risk.
Binge drinkers often set put planning to get as drunk as possible as
quickly as possible. Binge drinking is a growing problem, especially
among young people.
It is a dangerous activity. Quickly drinking a lot of alcohol
effectively poisons human body and regularly leads to drinkers dying.
Research has found that men who have five or more drinks in one sitting
and women who have four or more drinks in one sitting at least once
during a two-week period are much more likely to get into fights, drive
while drunk, get into trouble with law, and vandalize property.
